New Appointment Puts UBCO on the Road to US Growth
New Zealand-born startup UBCO, creators of the original 2×2 Electric Utility Bike, have appointed ex-Honda sales executive Robin Fiore to help lead their push into the US market.
With more than 200 bikes on the road or the trail and over 30 new dealerships stocking the feisty Kiwi-born, UBCO 2×2 Electric Utility Bike, the company is excited about its potential in the US marketplace.
To kick that growth into high gear, the company has appointed experienced motorcycle sales professional, Robin Fiore as Director of Sales for the US.
A 40-something adventure enthusiast with a career spanning 23 years within the transportation and technology industry, Fiore’s appointment comes at an important time for UBCO as it pursues the US electric vehicle marketplace.
Fiore has a strong pedigree in recreational vehicles, with the past eight years of his career as Senior District Sales Manager with the American Honda Motorcycle Division, working hand in hand with 17 dealerships in Southern California to maximize Honda powersports market share while enhancing the retail experience.
Fiore saw the role at UBCO as an opportunity to meld his love of motorbikes and the outdoors and be at the sharp end of a paradigm shift in environmentally-considerate transportation.
“I have come from an ultra-competitive retail background and have worked for a manufacturer that strives to be the best on earth. Personally, however, I have always strived to be a rebel dreamer, and am inspired to bring mobility to the masses,” said Fiore.
”“When I saw the UBCO 2x2 I immediately recognised what it represented and the multiple advantages its design offers – all-electric 2X2, a low centre of gravity, great battery capacity, step-through design and near silence, just to name a few."
“My mother has always inspired me to be the change I want to see in the world, and at UBCO I believe I can make a difference by expanding people’s accessibility to connect with nature,” Fiore said.
Success in the USD $12.7b North American off-road recreational vehicle marketplace is a key focus for UBCO (alongside naturally competing in the USD $6.21b on-road market for two-wheel vehicles).
Already having proven performance and sales in agriculture and recreation including hunting, camping, RV touring and recreational riding, UBCO has recently found a strong vein of potential in commercial fleets for postal services, tourism, conservation, civic service operations and delivery operations.
Recent trials in New Zealand include Domino’s, which purchased three UBCO 2×2 vehicles for a trial to see if they meet the performance requirements to be part of their delivery bike fleet, navigating the congested and sometimes chaotic terrain of the Auckland, Taupo and Queenstown CBDs.
The company is currently raising capital and UBCO has partnered with Snowball Effect to raise capital for the next stage of company development, focused on existing shareholders and a small group of potential new wholesale investors. With excellent investor interest secured the offer is now open and continues until the 20th April.
Since their last capital raise in early 2017, UBCO has established an Oregon (US) based office, launched their road legal 2×2, and grown revenue to $3m (last 12 months).
The company will use the fresh equity capital being raised to fund new market expansion, launching in Europe in 2019, as well as supporting sales growth and product development.
UBCO US President Ethan Ralston says that he’s excited by the growth the company is achieving in the US and says he is thrilled to have Fiore join the UBCO team and welcomes “the wealth of knowledge he brings from both the dealership and OEM level of Powersports”.
“What I like most is he knows the ins and outs of a dealership. Our goal is to take that experience and transform our dealer programs into something new and attractive – making it easy for Powersports dealers to work with our team and systems, with things like easy financing options, and straight forward purchasing programs.”
“Robin’s creativity and drive to increase awareness of electric vehicles will help us transform the US market and the way people ride,” Ralston said.
